Level of frustration with Kognity has also increased.

We lost a lot of content in the spring term when a lot of students and teachers were sick. We then had partly remote teaching and we had to simplify our content.

It would be great if Kognity can come up with an IGCSE Geography textbook too!

We cut one of our term breaks down by one week so we could catch up. We were lucky we only had one lockdown in most of the country (6weeks) and only one city had two lockdowns. IB Diploma has removed the option paper from its assessment in May and Nov 2021

Less accountable, attention span is very low

For some grades, students who are enthusiastic, it has been good for them. But quite a few students are struggling with the amount of online assignments.

A lot of students have not taken responsibility for their work because they were able to get away with it.

I have had to follow a student one on one to make sure the homework is done for all his classes. This is G10! No self management skills to speak off

Sometimes there have been problems with accountability. But from my end teaching about 33% of our school’s students, this has not been a huge issue. I think because our school is so small, the kids are motivated, and we have a tremendous Advisory/Pastoral care program that strives to give students something to look forward to. Some clubs are still continuing remotely and our Student Council is still active
This helps promote engagement and making things seem as normal as possible.

Developing lab skills

To help with the question of covering content: In the earlier grades, our school has taken the approach advocated by NESA (Near East Schools Association), which is mostly a focus on concepts instead of content. What are the key concepts students need to know to be successful at the current grade level and to prepare them for the next level. Hence, less of a reliance on curriculum coverage and lesson by lesson coverage and more of an emphasis on the bigger picture.

The amount of material that teachers have had to make, extended working hours...difficulty in doing practical work online.

Do teachers require students to turn cameras on?

Actually, the students' accountability has been the biggest problem. Also, to keep track of individual progress.

And how is participation and accountability in the situation where cameras are required to be on?

Google classrooms also allow teachers to share weekly updates with parents and guardians.

We insisted that cameras were on but some would claim their video link was not working.

Parents should surely know that the cameras and links “are not working”

We have the same problem, wifi is too weak, or so they say…

So sorry, my 94 year old father in law phone call cannot be left unanswered. Daily issue at my home.

With Kognity I was able to set work and track completion. As Kognity automatically marked assignment work there was ok feedback to keep track but the marking was not always friendly e.g. marked wrong because rounding was incorrect or the student forgot to put units in their answer

Flipped learning is an integral part of blended learning which promotes collaboration and personal commitments among the students. We have introduced it at Westcoast after COVID lockdown.

My problem is that collaboration turns into the work on an individual, not of the intended group

It goes back to the accountability

Concerning student privacy and child protection, what are schools doing to protect their students online? What advice do your schools offer to families about staying safe online especially now that so many of us are connecting from different locations and using various Internet accesses which may not have the same protections as what is offered at school?
